Lessing choses the language of deliberately "bad" painting to portrait an uninspired advert for an unneeded product.
One of Lessing's favorite subjects is the advertisement for robotic hardware or software. In this case on small upgrade is offered, that will probably have a hardware and a software component: "Pout".
In this work the artist doesn't celebrate a real breakthrough but mocks an advert for a poor "improvement" by using a childish, deliberately "bad" painting technique.
It might have appeared to be difficult to implement a pouting feature, or maybe it was just ignored yet for not being a promising sales proposition - or why else would the ad speak of a break-through?
The ad characterizes pouting as a "cute" feature that makes a robot "even more irresistible".
Finally, the "pout" option seems to be designed to fit into many existing robots.
As a viewer of this painting one has the impression that this ads attempts to sell something not so very special, and the pouting lower lip of the ad doesn't indicate that the advertiser has invested much into creating a great depiction.
AI or not: advertisement of the future may sometimes be as uninspired as today.
